Homework in Ms. Trotter’s Class
Homework is never given to students to teach a lesson for the first time. Homework is assigned in order to -Prepare, -Extend, -Practice, and -Study for materials.
Unfinished Work
Missed classroom practice assignments will be sent home to be completed as homework. Each situation varies and dependent on the amount of time that the student missed will allot the amount of time allowed to turn assignments in for credit. For example, if a student missed one day it would be a 1-day return, but if a student missed 5 days we may need to discuss options for making up assignments and lessons for the week.
Test Redo's
If a student receives a test score that they are not satisfied with they have an opportunity to make up the test the following Wednesday at lunch recess. This allows them extra time to study and time to ask for extra help. This will be the only opportunity to make up any tests, there will not be any other redo days offered.

- Preparation assignments will preview concepts or introduce ideas to students before a lesson is given for class. This is for exposure and to gather background information
- Extension assignments will focus of applying the ideas and knowledge that is gained in the classroom as well as their own personal ideas and creativity. These assignments will come in the form of projects- short or long term.
- Practice assignments are given to reinforce a skill or concept learned in class.
- Study assignments are given to prepare students for tests or exams
- Homework should not take longer than 20 minutes to finish. This does not include reading their library books daily. If your child is having trouble completing assignments in a reasonable amount of time, please contact me so we can discuss options.
- Homework is to be turned in the next day (or day noted on weekly newsletter if different)
Unfinished Work
- Students will take home incomplete classwork and complete it in addition to their nightly homework. These assignments need to be turned in THE NEXT MORNING for any credit
- Unfinished student work that is sent home for homework will also include an “uh-oh” note to be signed by a parent.
